Police officer, Bangkok, Thailand

During my trip to Thailand this year I spent halloween in Bangkok. After seeing some extremely creative and interesting costumes and make ups I also spotted the police officers who kept the peace. Thailand whilst being under the military rule after the political tensions has now given more power to the police. It is interesting to see how well this transition had taken place. Alcohol wasn't allowed to be sold on the pop up bars on the streets after 12pm anymore and neither were clubs and bars allowed to be open (unless they had a special arrangement with the local police :D) Nonetheless I felt much respect for the local police force and felt that they acted out of best interest for the locals and tourists enjoying themselves in Thailand. For anyone who has not been there GO! A country as rich in culture, great food and amazing people is hard to find. There is so much to see and experience. I have not once felt unsafe in Thailand and I have been to rougher areas. Bangkok itself being the capital yet still rich in culture and traditions, hard to find  another major city that still has so much variety being offered. Anyhow due to assuming wish to be anonymous the two police officers I have spoken to I will not name. Got to love the Ronald McDonald statue in the background.

What is your name? Lets keep it at Mr Cool and Mr Funny

Where do you come from? Yeah I also did not ask them this question.

As a little child, do you remember what was your dream job? Mr Cool wanted to be a police men since young. His father had been in the police force and so has his grandfather. Therefore it was logical that he would also join the police. Mr Funny however wanted to bee in a circus and be a wild beast tamer as he didn't have the guts to do so he said he then looked to tame the whilst beasts on the streets (He's funny hence my label as Mr. Funny for him assuming he was joking...).

What is your profession now? They are both officers for the Bangkok police force.

Are you happy with your work life? Both agreed that they are happy to be able to bring positive change to the streets of Bangkok and keep a safe heaven for people of all backgrounds. However the working hours are long and unpredictable. Also there are the occasional gruesome parts to their jobs which they said motivated them to ensure that gangs are crushed and the roads get safer.

If you could relive your life what advise would you give yourself? Mr Funny: Not to let the bad affect you personally or it will eat you up. You need to be able to shut off at night and not think about it. Mr Cool: I guess not to try to impress anyone or be someone I am not. Because my father and grandfather had been high ranked police officers I always felt I needed to be as good or achieve more than them. I am now a well ranked police officer however don't feel in a competition. At the beginning I felt insecure and also afraid to fail.

What does happiness mean for you? Mr Cool: I am happy when I am able to help someone with a positive outcome. I am also happy to get home safely and be with my family and my two boys. I live and breath as a police officer so true happiness for me I feel when I had been able to solve a problem with a satisfactory outcome for everyone involved. Mr Funny: When I have a cold beer and my wife and we can be alone and you know "talk" and stuff (laughs and shakes it off) I feel happy when I see a smile on a victims face. I also feel happy when I am with my buddy as work is not work for me, I really enjoy it (slaps mr cool).

If you could grant yourself one wish, what would it be? Mr Funny: I would wish to have unlimited wishes and then go travel around the world. I actually love to take photos and so would like to see other places than Thailand. Maybe Europe one day. Mr Cool: I would wish that the there is no more crime, but that would actually put me out of work so that wouldn't be good in a way, thats strange no? We fight crime but I need crime to earn a living.

What is the most important thing in life?  Mr Funny: Having a open mind and not to assume things too quickly. Don't judge by the first impression. If I did judge people I would have to lock you up. You are crazy to interview us on halloween, go have fun! (laughs). Mr Cool: He is crazy don't worry about him (laughs). The most important thing in life is to be happy with what you do and to accept that what you do is for a greater purpose. If you just work for money you cant be satisfied in life. I work not for the money but to help people. Everyone should have a reason for why they do what they do. You will never be happy or be good in a job if you are only doing it for money.

What advise for life can you give me? Mr Funny: Never forget to smile. Don't worry be happy. Make most of your life whilst you can. Mr Cool: Don't be a criminal! Be humble and good to people around you. I believe in karma. So don't do something that you don't want to happen to you.

I truly do wonder how much hair spray she used for this?

A man under two covers if you understand what I mean :)

A scary looking costume, she had her eyes fixed on me...one was white the other black.

If you haven't already prepared yourself to look scary no need to worry the local ladies have always an entrepreneurial nose and knew there will be a potential on the streets.

Also the local youth dressed up and enjoyed the halloween fun. Deadly brides these two...

Oh and if you are hungry after the partying and festival no need to worry, lots of pop up carts and stalls selling local dishes ranging from fried grasshopper to pad thai and dried scorpions. Enjoy!
